SCRC faculty member Maksim Plikus, PhD, professor of developmental & cell biology, and Kyriacos Athanasiou, Distinguished Professor of biomedical engineering and Henry Samueli Chair in Engineering, are co-principal investigators on the new project.
“The MOSAICA technology is a next-generation biopsy tool that will enable scientists and clinicians to simultaneously profile many biomarkers in cells and tissues. The ability to characterize the cellular composition, function, and interaction within complex tumors will inform personalized disease diagnosis and therapeutic treatment,” says Weian Zhao, PhD.
The Alpha Stem Cell Clinic (ASCC) provides a centralized infrastructure from which to work with UCI faculty and staff to enhance stem cell clinical research and activities at UCI.
The main purpose of this study is to obtain skin cells from people with Parkinson's Disease and to turn each person’s skin cells into dopamine-producing nerve cells.
